The best golf in Benahavís in 2026.

Few municipalities in Europe carry this much golf in this small a space. A buyer's reading of the Benahavís courses — which to play, which you can only live beside, and what that means for an apartment.

Benahavís is, by any sensible measure, one of the densest golf municipalities in Andalucía. The hills behind Marbella fold into a string of valleys, and almost every one of them holds a course — designed in most cases by names that mean something to anyone who follows the game. For an apartment buyer who plays, this is the whole argument: you can live above a fairway here, drive twelve minutes to Puerto Banús for dinner, and have a dozen other eighteens inside a short radius. This is a reading of the courses that matter, framed by what a buyer actually needs to know about each.

La Quinta — the buyer's default

La Quinta Golf and Country Club sits on the Benahavís–Marbella border, just above Puerto Banús, and it is the course most Benahavís apartment buyers end up living near. It is a 27-hole complex — three nine-hole loops designed by the Spanish professional Manuel Piñero — built around an urbanisation of apartments, townhouses and villas, with a resort hotel, academy and clubhouse on site. The three loops each have their own character: one short and precise around water, one long and forgiving, one tight and slope-heavy.

For an apartment buyer, La Quinta is the practical default: a real resort with food, a spa and a course on the doorstep, close enough to the coast that the inland penalty is twelve minutes, not forty. It is the urbanisation we point golf-led buyers to first.

Los Arqueros — Seve's course in the foothills

Los Arqueros Golf and Country Club opened in 1991, a par-71 eighteen designed by Severiano Ballesteros — the only Seve-designed course in the immediate area. It climbs the foothills of the Sierra de Ronda above San Pedro, follows the land rather than fighting it, and gives up long views over the countryside on the way down. It is open to visiting play and carries its own residential community, which makes it a credible alternative to La Quinta for a buyer who wants a slightly more elevated, slightly quieter setting.

La Zagaleta — the courses you live beside, not play

La Zagaleta is the famous one, and the one that needs care. It is a private residential estate of around 900 hectares in the Benahavís hills, home to some of Spain's most exclusive properties, and it has two golf courses across its grounds — the Old Course and the New Course, 36 holes in total. The Old Course is effectively residents-only; the New Course admits owner-members and a limited number of outside members, with restricted guest hours.

For an apartment buyer this is mostly context rather than a target — La Zagaleta is overwhelmingly large villas, not flats, and access to the golf is tied to estate membership. It matters because it sets the tone of the municipality at the very top end, and because its presence is part of why Benahavís reads as exclusive. But you buy an apartment near it, not inside it.

Marbella Club Golf Resort and Los Flamingos

Two more belong on any honest list. Marbella Club Golf Resort sits in the Benahavís hills — an eighteen designed by Dave Thomas, with long views to the coast, Gibraltar and, on the right day, the North African mountains. Los Flamingos, toward the Estepona side, carries three eighteen-hole courses — Flamingos, Alferini and Tramores — clustered around the Anantara Villa Padierna Palace, the five-star resort that anchors the urbanisation. (Again, for the record: it is the Anantara Villa Padierna Palace. There is no Six Senses on this coast.)

Los Flamingos is the relevant one for apartment stock — its urbanisation includes flats and townhouses with course frontage, and the resort dining and spa make it a self-contained address. The trade is that it sits further west and a touch further from Puerto Banús than La Quinta.

La Alquería and the rest

Rounding out the picture, La Alquería carries its own eighteen-hole course with strong views and a residential community that has seen real demand in recent years, ranging from traditional to very contemporary architecture. Between these, the total golf provision around Benahavís runs well past a dozen eighteens — a concentration that genuinely changes the rental and lifestyle case for an apartment here.

What the golf does to the apartment maths

Golf-front apartments in Benahavís carry two advantages a buyer should weigh honestly. First, they rent in the shoulder seasons — spring and autumn — that golfers prize and that beach demand misses, which smooths the income calendar relative to a pure-summer coastal let. Second, the golf is a year-round amenity in a way the beach is not, which supports off-season living.

The counterweights: a fairway outlook is not a sea view and does not command the same premium on resale; comunidad fees in resort urbanisations tend to be higher; and golf-estate regimes sometimes restrict short-letting. For the golf-led buyer the equation usually closes; for the buyer chasing capital growth alone, village stock can be the better value. We work through this trade-off in detail on our golf-led buyers comparison.

Frequently asked questions

How many golf courses are there in and around Benahavís?

Benahavís is one of the densest golf municipalities in Andalucía. Within the area you have La Quinta's 27 holes, Los Arqueros, the two La Zagaleta courses, Marbella Club Golf Resort, La Alquería, and the three courses at Los Flamingos around the Anantara Villa Padierna Palace — well over a dozen eighteens within a short drive.

Which Benahavís golf courses can a visitor actually play?

La Quinta, Los Arqueros, Marbella Club Golf Resort and the Los Flamingos courses are open to visiting and resort players. La Zagaleta is the exception — the Old Course is residents-only and the New Course admits outside members and limited guest play, so for most buyers it is effectively a private estate course.

Should I buy an apartment on a golf course in Benahavís?

Golf-front apartments command a premium and rent well in the shoulder seasons golfers favour. The trade-off is higher comunidad costs and the fact that a fairway view is not a sea view. For a golf-led buyer the maths usually works; for a pure capital-growth buyer, weigh it against village stock.
